SCC, SFD review Sharjah government's general budget for 2026

Sharjah 24: Rashid Abdullah bin Huwaiden, the Chairman of the Financial, Economic, and Industrial Affairs Committee of the Sharjah Consultative Council, led a meeting this morning at the Council's headquarters in Sharjah, attended by representatives from the Sharjah Finance Department.

The main agenda of the meeting was to review the draft general budget law for Sharjah government departments and entities for the fiscal year 2026.

Key committee members who significantly contribute to the analysis and recommendations on the budget attended the gathering. This included Dr Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, the committee's rapporteur; Engineer Nabil Butti Al Muhairi; Abdullah Tarish Al Ketbi; and Tariq Murad Al Balushi. Halima Hamid Al Owais, Vice President of the Sharjah Consultative Council, and Mira Khalifa Al Muqarrab, the Council's Secretary-General, were also present.

From the Sharjah Finance Department, several officials joined the meeting, including Waleed Ibrahim Al Sayegh, the Director General; Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Director of the Department; Marwa Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, Director of the Budget, Planning, and Finance Department; Noor Abdul Rahman Shehail, Head of the Infrastructure and Capital Projects Budget Section; Majid Omar Al Zarouni, Head of the Economic Development Budget Section; Sheikha Abdul Basit Abu Al Zoud, Head of the Social Development Budget Section; and Alia Abdullah Al Sheikh, Head of the Government Administration Budget Section.

During the meeting, Al Sayegh provided a comprehensive overview of the 2026 general budget, discussing the allocation of revenues and expenditures, along with a breakdown of spending across various sectors. He emphasized that the budget aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, particularly regarding human development. This will be achieved through ongoing service and infrastructure projects while bolstering advancements in health, education, and social welfare, all in step with the ambitious goals of the Sharjah government.

The committee explored specific budget items, offering their insights and observations concerning the proposed revenues and expenditures, as well as the detailed allocation of funds across budget sections and categories.

Committee members praised the Finance Department for their diligent preparation of the budget, which serves as a vital tool reflecting the government's strategic vision and enhancing the quality of services for both citizens and residents of Sharjah.

In closing, Rashid Abdullah bin Huwaiden highlighted the committee's commitment to thoroughly studying and analyzing all aspects of the budget, which is crucial for the sustainable growth of Sharjah and the welfare of its residents. He underscored the significance of the 2026 general budget in driving sustainable development and economic progress in Sharjah, in line with the vision of the esteemed leadership. He announced that the committee would present its final report to the Consultative Council for review under the parliamentary dome.
