Le Manz’s message at Xposure: Don’t wait for moment be the moment

Sharjah24: At the 10th edition of the Xposure International Photography Festival, Spanish photographer and visual artist Richard Le Manz presented a concept-driven body of work that blends poetry, symbolism, and social critique, using photography as a call to awareness and action rather than mere visual documentation.

Known for transforming everyday elements into layered visual metaphors, Le Manz approaches the image as a language of ideas and responsibility. In an interview on the sidelines of Xposure, he described photography not as a passive art form, but as a moral and social commitment.

“For me, photography is commitment,” he said. “It is a commitment to improving our world and helping to create a better society. I use photography as a transformative force that helps people understand global issues and reflect on their impact.”

He stressed that images can move public consciousness more effectively than abstract discussion alone, noting that photography has a unique ability to make complex challenges emotionally accessible.

“I believe photography is one of the strongest ways to make people think seriously about the critical issues facing humanity,” he explained.

During this year’s festival, Le Manz is showcasing an exhibition titled “Decisive Moment,” which he describes as a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic photographic philosophy of the decisive moment — originally associated with Henri Cartier-Bresson — where the photographer waits for all visual elements to align perfectly within the frame.

However, Le Manz said his interpretation challenges the idea of waiting.

“In the classical sense, the decisive moment is about patience — waiting until composition and meaning come together,” he said. “But today, we cannot afford to wait. Our time demands response, not delay.” He urged photographers not to wait for the moment, but to be the moment..

Through conceptual imagery and symbolic visual narratives, Le Manz positions photography as both mirror and message — an artistic practice that not only captures reality, but urges viewers to rethink it.
