Sharjah24: Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club organised a dialogue session titled “The Role of the Family in Enhancing Environmental Awareness,” marking National Environment Day and aligning with the Year of the Family. The session, held outdoors at Saih Labardi on Tuesday morning, brought together officials, environmental specialists, and community figures.

The event was attended by Dr Mohammed Abdullah bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of Al Dhaid Municipal Council; Salem Mohammed bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of Al Dhaid Club; Eid Matar Ghurair, Municipal Council Member; Khalifa Mubarak Dalmook Al Ketbi, Head of the Cultural and Community Development Committee at the club; Saif bin Dilwan Al Ketbi, Board Member and Head of the Planning and Institutional Excellence Committee; and Muhair Obaid Al Khayal Al Taneji, Executive Director of the club, along with senior citizens and community representatives.

Family at the heart of environmental awareness

The session praised government efforts to promote environmental awareness and emphasised the family’s central role in raising environmentally conscious generations. Speakers highlighted how daily practices at home help instil sustainability values in children.

The discussion, moderated by Obaid Hamed Al Taneji, addressed ways to educate family members about protecting natural resources, particularly vegetation cover, encouraging the planting of native trees, and maintaining the cleanliness of parks and desert areas.

Supporting Sharjah’s sustainability vision

Participants commended the environmental initiatives launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, including nature reserves, the seed bank, and other projects to expand green areas and combat desertification.

The session also featured presentations by representatives from Al Dhaid Municipality and the city’s nursery on environmental initiatives, highlighting the importance of cooperation between families, educational institutions, and community organisations in promoting environmental responsibility.

Speakers emphasised that investing in family awareness is a long-term investment in preparing environmentally conscious generations capable of protecting natural resources and preserving ecological balance.

Salem Mohammed bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of Al Dhaid Cultural and Sports Club, affirmed that such initiatives are part of the club’s efforts to strengthen environmental awareness and community responsibility, while drawing on the experience of senior citizens to support environmental sustainability, including the expansion of the seed bank.
