Al Hamriyah hosts the second stop of Sharjah Heritage Days

Sharjah 24: On Friday evening, the second stop of the 23rd Sharjah Heritage Days was inaugurated in Al Hamriyah. This event, part of a series of activities taking place across the emirate's cities and regions, showcases Emirati heritage in its vibrant spaces and strengthens the community's connection to its cultural roots.

The opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Abubaker Al Kindi, Director of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), accompanied by His Excellency Hamid Saif Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Al Hamriya Municipal Council, Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriya Municipality, and Saqr Mohammed, Head of the External Openings Committee, along with heads and directors of departments, members of the Municipal Council, and a number of officials and those interested in heritage affairs.

Tour of the Heritage Village

The opening ceremony included a guided tour of the Heritage Village, where attendees explored its various sections and activities that reflect the diversity of Emirati environments. The event featured models of Bedouin, marine, and agricultural environments, as well as specialised exhibitions highlighting traditional crafts and practices. A wheat farm was also featured, introducing visitors to the stages of planting and harvesting as they relate to local history.

Specialised exhibitions

The event also saw a significant presence of booths showcasing products made by local families and government entities. These booths offered products and educational experiences connected to Emirati heritage. Traditional markets displayed handicrafts and traditional foods, providing a vivid portrayal of traditional Emirati life.

Folk performances and international arts

The opening programme included theatrical performances and shows by Emirati folk groups, along with an artistic performance from the Republic of Croatia. This showcased the cultural exchange between peoples and reinforced the presence of folk arts within the Sharjah Heritage Days.

Interactive workshops and experiences for young people

The events also allowed visitors, especially children and young people, to learn about traditional crafts and handicrafts through workshops and hands-on experiences. These activities contribute to transmitting heritage knowledge in contemporary ways and strengthen the presence of national identity in the minds of new generations.

Al Hamriyah is one of the 23rd Sharjah Heritage Days’ stops, which are spread across several cities and regions of the emirate. The event features a diverse cultural and heritage programme that reinforces identity and affirms Sharjah's position as a vital centre for preserving and transmitting heritage to future generations.
