The initiative aims to educate pilgrims about the rulings and rituals of Hajj and to enhance spiritual
preparedness for this important act of worship, coinciding with the departure of UAE pilgrims for the holy sites.
The department organised an awareness programme titled “Hajj Rituals… Step by Step” in several mosques across Sharjah, the Central Region and the Eastern Region. The sessions explained the rituals, rulings and etiquettes of Hajj in line with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), using a simplified approach tailored to different segments of society to help pilgrims perform their rituals correctly.
The department also launched the “First Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah Lessons” programme in mosques across the emirate. The daily lessons covered the virtues of these blessed days, the most meritorious deeds during this period, the merits of fasting, charity and night prayers, as well as the significance of the Day of Arafah, the Greater Pilgrimage Day and the rulings on sacrificial offerings.
Dr Salem Mohammed Al Doobi, Director of the Religious Guidance Department, said that preparing for Hajj is not limited to procedural and health aspects but also includes spiritual and psychological readiness, which forms the foundation for the acceptance of this great act of worship.
He explained that the department’s awareness programme focuses on clarifying the rulings and objectives of Hajj, strengthening the values of sincerity and devotion to Allah, and promoting positive behaviour for pilgrims to adopt during their spiritual journey.
Al Doobi added that the lectures aim to simplify Hajj rulings and answer pilgrims’ religious questions before travel, helping reassure them and strengthen their confidence. He also noted that the department’s scientific and awareness programmes will continue throughout the Dhul Hijjah season.
For his part, Abdullah Omran Al Khayal, Director of the Government Communication Department, said the department is implementing an integrated media strategy to enhance pilgrims’ awareness and to deliver educational messages through modern, effective methods across media and digital platforms.
He added that direct communication with pilgrims is a key part of the plan, noting that the department maintains a presence at Sharjah International Airport to communicate with pilgrims before departure, answer their enquiries and provide guidance materials via the “Pilgrim’s Bag,” which contains a range of religious and educational publications to support pilgrims’ spiritual and practical preparation for Hajj.
