The directives came during a phone call from an employee, Amal Al Junaibi, to the “Direct Line” programme on Sharjah Radio and Television, hosted by Ahmed Sultan. She explained that she works for the Sharjah Government and that her husband has a disability and uses a wheelchair, requiring frequent hospital visits. Following surgeries last year, she was granted medical companion leave within the UAE. She submitted all required documents and medical reports confirming the need for her presence with her husband, who is scheduled for another operation on 26 February.
However, she later discovered that her employer had deducted her entire leave balance and withheld her salary for three consecutive months because she had been accompanying her husband.
During a phone intervention during the programme, His Highness stated that the action taken in Amal Al Junaibi’s case violated existing regulations. He explained that no rules allow such procedures and that the employee who made the decision acted independently without referring to the relevant instructions or the general administration. He described all actions taken as incorrect and said he had contacted Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi to intervene immediately.
His Highness ordered the suspension of roles that deal directly with humanitarian cases, stressing the importance of resolving the issue and restoring Amal’s rights. He asked Al Zaabi to join the programme immediately to correct the error.
Following the Ruler’s directives, Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi joined the programme by phone and assured Amal Al Junaibi that her case would be fully reviewed and that her leave balance would be restored. He described the situation as an exceptional humanitarian case, affirming that Sharjah is a home of humanity and that all human resources laws and regulations in the emirate take humanitarian and social circumstances into account.
He confirmed that all government entities would be contacted to implement a fast, flexible mechanism to address similar cases, with immediate solutions provided through a dedicated section in the Department of Human Resources.
During the programme, His Highness responded to a call from a resident named Amer from Kalba, who complained about sewage issues from nearby apartment buildings. The Ruler said the matter would be included in the development plan.
He added that residents of the houses affected in the Khor Kalba area would be relocated within six months to a new residential complex in the University District opposite Khor Kalba. Approximately six houses, including the caller’s, will be moved to the new fully equipped complex, which has been expedited for completion.
His Highness also announced a new tourism project in Khor Kalba, including the opening of a lodge similar to “Al Rayaheen Retreat” in Khorfakkan, with a private beachfront. The homes in the new complex will be fully furnished and named after their owners rather than numbered. He added that the area will undergo comprehensive development and urged residents who have not yet received housing compensation in old Khor Kalba to contact the municipality.
In another humanitarian gesture, His Highness directed the Emiri Court to cover one academic year’s tuition fees for the daughter of citizen Fatima Mohammed from Kalba, who is studying at the University of Sydney in Australia. During her call to the programme, Fatima explained that her daughter had received a merit scholarship but had lost one grade in part of a course, resulting in the scholarship being suspended for the current academic year in accordance with regulations. The scholarship will resume in subsequent years. Due to the high tuition cost of AED 300,000 for the current year, she requested assistance.
Concluding the series of directives announced on Thursday’s “Direct Line” programme, His Highness instructed Rashid Ahmed bin Al Sheikh, Chairman of the Emiri Court, to coordinate with the Friends of Patients Society to resume medical assistance previously provided to a patient known as Umm Abdulrahman. The caller explained that she is the daughter of a female citizen and suffers from several health problems. The association had stopped her medical assistance several months ago, and she currently has no health insurance or source of income other than limited support from her mother, funded through aid from the Sharjah Social Services Department.
