SCC committee review draft law regulating the University of Arts

Sharjah24: The Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee of the Sharjah Consultative Council convened to review the draft law governing the University of Arts and to offer its opinion on the 2026 bill referred to during a previous plenary session.

The meeting was held this morning at the council’s headquarters in Sharjah, chaired by Mohammed Ali Al Hammadi, Chairman of the Committee, with Obaid Ishaq Al Mazmi acting as Committee Rapporteur. It included members Mohammed Saleh Al Ali, Hamad Abdullah Al Rumaithi, Rashid Saleh Al Hammadi, and Khalifa Mohammed Bu Ghanem.

Also attending were Meera Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Secretary-General of the Council; Sheikha Al Naqbi, Chairperson of the Council’s Education Committee; and from the General Secretariat, Saif bin Suwaif Al Ketbi and Sumaya Jassim Al Hammadi.

Focus on governance and academic framework

During the meeting, the committee examined the articles of the draft law, including provisions regarding the university’s leadership, administration, degrees, and regulatory framework.

Supporting academic and training objectives

The committee also discussed the overall framework of the draft law and its role in assisting the university to achieve its strategic objectives, particularly in developing academic and training programmes in performing arts and visual arts.

Report to be submitted to council

At the end of the meeting, the committee approved preparing its report for submission to the council during its upcoming plenary session.
