Sharjah24: Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) implemented its programme as part of the 11th Gulf Cancer Awareness Week 2026, held across GCC countries from 1 to 7 February, through a series of activities in the UAE focused on awareness, early detection, and support for patients and their families. Building on the week’s momentum, FOCP and the Pink Caravan expanded the campaign throughout February in partnership with national and local entities.

The association also participated in the 13th Regional Oncology Conference in Kuwait, reinforcing regional cooperation in cancer care. In the UAE, FOCP took part in major platforms such as the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival and Arab Health 2026, alongside institutional awareness initiatives. The Cancer Run in Abu Dhabi and Dubai attracted 7,100 participants, including FOCP staff, cancer patients, and community members, promoting healthy lifestyles and raising cancer awareness.

Breast health services and screenings

During World Cancer Day activities at Ajman Marina Mall, the Pink Caravan provided breast health services, including more than 40 mammograms and over 50 clinical breast examinations, to facilitate early detection and promote timely follow-up care.

Support for patients and families

FOCP also organised a community celebration for 58 patients and their families in collaboration with Sharjah Heritage Museum, marking the mid-Sha’ban occasion. The event featured entertainment, competitions, and traditional Emirati food in a festive atmosphere.

Ramadan initiative for 200 families

As part of its patient support efforts, FOCP launched a Ramadan food basket initiative benefiting 200 families of cancer patients. The programme was implemented in partnership with the UAE Food Bank and the Sharjah Capability Development Foundation, with distribution at the Rubu’ Qarn Life Skills Centre.

Commitment to awareness and early detection

Aisha Al Mulla, Director of FOCP, said the campaign highlighted the importance of translating awareness into tangible support for patients and their families, emphasising the association’s priorities of early detection, stronger support networks, and improved patient outcomes.
