Sharjah 24 – AFP: Daniil Medvedev booked his place in the Dubai Tennis Championships final with a 6-4, 6-2 win over top seed Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday. The former world number one has 22 career titles but has never won the same tournament twice.

Medvedev to face Griekspoor

Medvedev will face Tallon Griekspoor, the Dutch world number 25, in Saturday’s final. Griekspoor shocked fifth seed Andrey Rublev 7-5, 7-6 (8/6) despite a groin/hamstring injury, producing 19 aces and becoming the first Dutch finalist in tournament history.

Semi-final highlights

Medvedev dominated Auger-Aliassime, breaking serve early in the second set and finishing the match in 1 hour 23 minutes, improving his head-to-head record against the Canadian to 8-2.

Griekspoor’s injury concern

Griekspoor acknowledged his injury but vowed to recover and compete in the final, saying he would do everything possible to be ready for the match against Medvedev.
