Poets unleash their creativity in Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival

Sharjah24: The Sharjah Poetry House continued hosting cultural events, with the sixth poetry evening held on Saturday as part of the 22nd Sharjah Arabic Poetry Festival. The event was attended by His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture, and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, along with a distinguished group of poets, critics, and a large audience of Arabic poetry enthusiasts.

Seven poets representing diverse poetic traditions from across the Arab world shone this evening: Mohammed Arij from Morocco, Mudhar Al Alousi from Iraq, Nasser Al Ghassani from the Sultanate of Oman, Jabr Badani from Yemen, Mohammed Ould Adoumou from Mauritania, Asil Saqlawi from Lebanon, and Dr Khalifa bin Arabi from the Kingdom of Bahrain. The evening was moderated and presented by Abdul Latif Mahjoub from Sudan.

The participating poets took turns reciting their poems, each presenting a piece distinguished by its diverse themes, enriching the evening with artistic depth and a variety of styles and poetic visions.

Readings

The evening began with a captivating performance by the Moroccan poet Mohammed Arij, who enthralled the audience with a selection of his poems, including "Blind Morning," which expresses profound feelings of loneliness and contemplation.

Following this, the Iraqi poet Mudhar Al-Alousi delighted the audience with his moving poem "Greetings," which delved into emotion and symbolism. In it, he presented a poetic image that juxtaposed strength and vulnerability.

The Omani poet Nasser Al Ghasani shone with a collection of poems bearing distinctive titles such as "Opposites," "To My Father, the Absence That Always Dwells Within Me," and "Ascent to Meaning." Among these works, he recited a poignant poem that explored longing and sorrow.

The Lebanese poet Asil Saqlawi offered a distinctive artistic touch through verses that captured the feelings of dreams and yearning. In her poem "A Distant Sky for a Dreamy Child," she masterfully portrays a journey of loss and the search for strength.

Mauritanian poet Mohamed Ould Adoumou presented his poem "Light and Meaning," which reflected his inner journey through words and emotions.

Conclusion

The evening concluded with Bahraini poet Khalifa bin Arabi's enchanting poem "Blessed is Poetry," which opened with verses that blended the beauty of creation with the splendour of poetry.

At the end of the evening, His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, and Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, honoured the participating poets by presenting them with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their poetic contributions and the creative insights that enriched the evening.

The audience also listened to Yemeni poet Jabr Baadani, who recited his poem reflecting on the tragedy.
