The initiative is being implemented by SEWA’s Electricity Distribution Department as part of a comprehensive development plan to improve grid efficiency and enhance service quality. In 2025, SEWA installed 13,335 smart electricity meters for new projects and replaced 7,982 old mechanical meters with smart meters across the city.
Engineer Ahmed Al Bas, Deputy Director of the Electricity Distribution Department at the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, said that technical teams continue to upgrade outdated meters with advanced smart systems that deliver high accuracy and meet the latest international standards.
Al Bas noted that the project aligns with SEWA’s vision to accelerate digital transformation and deliver reliable, sustainable services to subscribers across the emirate. Smart meters enhance monitoring, improve billing accuracy, and enable more efficient energy management.
He emphasised SEWA’s commitment to continuing to develop its metering infrastructure while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety, thereby strengthening network reliability and improving customer satisfaction.
