Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) has completed the “Friday Market” project in the Al Madam area as part of its ongoing efforts to develop infrastructure and promote economic and community activities in the emirate.

The initiative aligns with residents’ aspirations and contributes to improving their quality of life. It also supports the department’s strategic goal of providing integrated service facilities that enhance commercial activity and serve the community’s needs.

Integrated commercial and community facilities

The project spans a large area designed to combine commercial functions with community services and recreational features. The main market building consists of a ground floor covering 3,379 square meters and includes 44 shops, each with an area of 60 square meters. The building also contains a prayer room for men, another for women, public restrooms for both genders, and an administrative office responsible for managing daily operations.

The project further includes an outdoor central plaza of 11,527 square meters, planned to feature a future garden, a children's play area, and a designated space for selling traditional foods, enriching the area's heritage atmosphere and encouraging community interaction.

Sustainable and well-designed external works

The project aims to offer a comprehensive and sustainable community experience. External works include the construction of an asphalt internal road network and a parking area with 214 spaces. The site also incorporates 9,709 square meters of paved outdoor areas and 3,262 square meters of green spaces, providing the market with an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally balanced character.

Supporting Sharjah’s urban and community development vision

This achievement adds to the department’s record of projects that focus on enhancing community satisfaction and integrating urban development with public services. It demonstrates the department’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and sustainability in its major developments.

Statement from the director of the branches department

Engineer Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Director of the Branches Department, affirmed that the completion of the Friday Market project in Al Madam represents a significant step in the department’s efforts to promote community and commercial development in the Emirate of Sharjah. He explained that the project was implemented according to rigorous technical and environmental standards, creating a vibrant destination that brings together commercial activity, community services, and recreational elements while meeting residents’ needs and enhancing the quality of life in the area.

Al Tunaiji added that this project complements a series of Friday markets in the Central Region, following the completion of markets in Mleiha, Al Bataeh, and the Al Masyal market in Al Dhaid. Together, these markets complete a network of popular destinations that reflect the region’s heritage, support economic activity, and offer integrated platforms for traders and residents, strengthening Sharjah’s position as a leading center for urban and community development.
