The department oversees 430 government buildings across the emirate's cities and regions, containing more than 65,000 government assets, including equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, and structural facilities.
The department explained that its annual operational plan focuses on preventive maintenance, regular inspections and distributing work teams according to priorities based on detailed asset analysis and the needs of each facility.
The department follows a flexible seasonal methodology tailored to the needs of each season of the year.
Before the academic year begins, maintenance teams carry out comprehensive work in schools, universities and nurseries, including maintenance of electrical networks, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, sanitary facilities, emergency exits, wall repairs and painting, to ensure a safe educational environment.
During summer, the department intensifies maintenance of air-conditioning systems across government buildings to ensure efficient operation during peak temperatures.
The work includes cleaning cooling units, inspecting compressors, maintaining control systems and replacing filters.
The department also implements a maintenance programme for 48 swimming pools, covering pump inspections, water treatment, tile maintenance and safety checks.
During the rainy season, teams inspect roofs, thermal and waterproofing insulation systems, water drainage channels and leak points to prepare buildings for weather changes.
Ahead of Ramadan, the department carries out maintenance at mosques in line with official directives, including sound systems, lighting, ablution facilities and carpets.
It also prepares prayer grounds and external facilities ahead of the holiday seasons to accommodate worshippers.
Before the sports seasons, the department carries out maintenance on clubs and sports facilities, including fields, irrigation systems and changing rooms, to ensure readiness for sporting events.
The department stated that its operational framework includes preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance, rapid response systems for reports, and continuous coordination with government entities.
It emphasised that seasonal maintenance is a comprehensive strategy to improve the efficiency and lifespan of government assets while ensuring safe, sustainable environments across Sharjah’s public facilities, in line with the emirate’s vision for infrastructure development and quality of life enhancement.
