Sharjah unveils eighth edition of AWST details

Sharjah24: Sharjah revealed details of the eighth Arab Women's Sports Tournament (AWST) at a press conference on Monday at the Sharjah Women’s Sports Olympic Centre. Attendees included Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Sheikh Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, senior officials, and members of the media. Hanan Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Vice Chair of the Higher Organising Committee, outlined new developments, including taekwondo (G1) and rowing. Several sports, including volleyball, gained international federation accreditation, enhancing the tournament’s prestige.

Launch of mascot “Raya”

Hanan Al Mahmoud also revealed the official mascot for the eighth edition, “Raya,” inspired by the jerboa, chosen for its distinctive characteristics that symbolise agility and resilience. Part of the event’s new audio identity was also unveiled during the conference.

Wide Arab participation

The tournament will see 63 teams from 16 Arab countries competing across nine sports, reflecting the growing scale and prominence of the Games.
