The conference featured discussions on the latest trends in the design of public parks and open spaces, the role of artificial intelligence in developing landscaping solutions, and a review of quality projects in sustainable urban planning.
The conference discussed new concepts in designing parks and open spaces, and how the assistance of artificial intelligence is used in creating landscaping solutions.
Engineer Alia Al Rand discussed the SDPW’s efforts to implement integrated urban projects that take sustainability and resource efficiency into account. She also pointed out buildings that have obtained the LEED rating, such as Sharjah Health City, and buildings that meet the department’s GAF green building system standards, noting 26 buildings in the last three years.
She stressed that the department is committed to maintaining health and environmental standards to ensure safety in all parks, including rubber walkway flooring and children’s playgrounds, to comply with the most prominent international standards (ASTM-F2157) and (ASTM-F1292).
Engineer Khaled Al Souqi took part in the discussion, addressing the integration of infrastructure with green spaces and the importance of climate-friendly design in enhancing the quality of life. He noted that the department has updated the project guidelines to ensure sustainability requirements and accessibility for people with disabilities, based on international standards and adherence to the standards adopted for the Sharjah Healthy City Program and its application to nurseries in schools and various entities. The SDPW is dedicated to building schools and nurseries and adopting the sustainability principles of the Sharjah Healthy City Program, such as air quality and lighting, the use of eco-friendly materials, and the provision of safe facilities accessible to people with disabilities. Collaborating with other authorities, the department also reviews designs to ensure compliance with the program's requirements and to achieve a healthy, sustainable educational environment.
