Sharjah24: His Eminence Dr Salem Al Dobi, Head of the Preaching and Fatwa Department at the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs, delivered a focused discussion on the Qur’an during Ramadan in the fourth episode of the religious programme “Spiritual Reflections,” broadcast on Sharjah24. He highlighted the profound impact of the Holy Qur’an on individuals, families, mosques, and society, affirming that Ramadan is the month of the Qur’an, remembrance, reflection, and righteous deeds.

At the start of the episode, Dr Al Dobi explained that Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed, citing the verse: “The month of Ramadan in which the Qur’an was revealed.” He noted that Allah has filled this month with goodness, blessings, and mercy for those who enliven its days and nights through recitation and contemplation of the Holy Book.

He noted that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would dedicate Ramadan to reciting and reviewing the Qur’an, meeting Angel Jibreel each night to revise it, thereby demonstrating the deep connection between Ramadan and the Qur’an.

Dr Al Dobi stressed that reading the Qur’an in Ramadan is not merely verbal recitation but also reflection on its meanings and the application of its teachings and values. He cited the hadith, “Whoever reads a letter from the Qur’an will receive a reward, and each reward is multiplied tenfold,” explaining that repeated recitation strengthens faith and enriches the soul.

The Qur’an and family life

Dr Al Dobi emphasised the importance of gathering family members to read the Qur’an together during Ramadan evenings, especially as this year carries the theme “Year of the Family.” He explained that collective recitation nurtures children’s love for the Qur’an, strengthens faith, and instils values of patience, cooperation, and spiritual awareness within the household.

He described Ramadan as a comprehensive school of worship, where fasting, prayer, Qur’an recitation, and supplication converge. He also cited the hadith, “Fasting and the Qur’an will intercede for the servant on the Day of Resurrection,” underscoring the immense reward of combining these acts of worship.

Concluding the episode, Dr Al Dobi encouraged families to gather before Iftar or after Taraweeh prayers to read verses of the Qur’an, make supplications, and reflect on their meanings, affirming that whoever makes the Qur’an the spring of their heart will attain success in this life and the hereafter.
