Sharjah 24: Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) has commenced work on a comprehensive sewerage network project in the Al Juraina area. This project is part of the department's plan to develop infrastructure and enhance environmental sustainability in the emirate, in collaboration with Jacobs Consultants and Dar Alwd Construction Company, and in full coordination with Sharjah Municipality.

Integrated infrastructure

This project is one of a series of development projects being implemented by the Department of Public Works across the emirate. The aim is to provide integrated infrastructure that meets the highest international engineering standards, improves the quality of public services, enhances community well-being, and protects the environment.

Highest approved technical specifications

Engineer Hind Al Hashemi, Director of the Public Services Department at the SDPW, confirmed that the project is a priority within the Sharjah City Sewerage Master Plan. This plan aims to improve infrastructure efficiency, support sustainable development, and meet the demands of the emirate's rapid population and urban growth.

Al Hashemi added that the project is being implemented according to the highest approved technical specifications and standards, and within a carefully planned timeframe that minimises the impact of construction work on the daily traffic of the area's residents. She emphasised the department's commitment to providing innovative and highly efficient engineering solutions that align with the emirate's sustainable development policies. For the first time in this type of project in the emirate, prefabricated inspection chambers with a depth exceeding 2.5 metres have been used, which contributes to accelerating the pace of work and reducing disruption to residents.

Enhancing infrastructure services in residential areas

For his part, Engineer Majid Al Suwaidi, Project Manager at Department of Public Works, explained that the project serves approximately 540 plots of land. It includes extending a 32,000-metre main sewage network with diameters ranging from 200 mm to 900 mm, and a 15,000-metre branch network with diametres of 150 mm. Additionally, a pumping station with a capacity of 215 litres per second and a depth of 13 metres is being constructed to pump untreated wastewater through a 425-metre-long, 450 mm-diametre pumping line. This line discharges the wastewater via a 2,000-metre-long, 800 mm-diametre gravity-fed line to the pumping station in the Muwailih area. From there, it is transferred to the treatment plant via the existing main system in the Muwailih Commercial Area.

The project embodies the department's commitment to enhancing infrastructure services in residential areas and reflects its efforts to modernise the sewage system in the Emirate of Sharjah through innovative and sustainable solutions that support the Emirate's vision for a more developed and prosperous future.
