Sharjah 24: During 2025, Dibba Al-Hisn Municipality continued its diligent efforts to enhance green spaces and beautify the city, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, aimed at increasing vegetation cover and improving the aesthetic appearance of cities.

Planting nearly a quarter million flowers

The annual planting efforts included approximately 228,000 flowers of various types, covering an area of nearly 20,520 square metres, in addition to 1,580 shrubs of various types covering an area of 3,160 square metres, 460 trees providing shade of approximately 7,680 square meters, and 6,400 ground cover plants covering an area of 576 square metres, along with 70 palm trees and 101 palm-like trees to enhance plant diversity and add aesthetic appeal to the city's various neighborhoods.

A green identity for the city

Khadija Najib Al-Nuaimi, Director of the Agriculture Department at Dibba Al-Hisn Municipality, explained that the success of the annual planting efforts was the result of a comprehensive care plan developed by the department. This plan included the use of the latest agricultural techniques and innovative methods for plant care, in addition to implementing automated irrigation systems that helped maintain the plants in optimal conditions and saved time and effort during daily maintenance.

Al-Nuaimi added, "We focused on diversifying the plants to suit the city's climatic conditions and providing integrated natural features in every neighbourhood, whether through planting flowers and shrubs or through palm trees and palm-like trees that give the city a distinctive green identity. These efforts are not just about planting; they are a long-term strategy to enhance environmental quality and create a sustainable aesthetic that contributes to the comfort of both residents and visitors."

Creating an environment that contributes to improving quality of life

His Excellency Talib Abdullah Al Yahyai, Director of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, stated: “Our efforts in agriculture and afforestation are not limited to simply increasing green spaces, but also aim to create a healthy and aesthetically pleasing urban environment that contributes to improving the quality of life in the city.” Al Yahyai added: “We are committed to ensuring that the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah are embodied in every tree and plant, so that the city becomes a model to be emulated in sustainable development and green urban planning. We will continue to enhance these programs periodically, focusing on innovation in care methods and the use of modern technologies to ensure plant growth and maximise the benefit from every planted area, so that Dibba Al Hisn remains a beautiful, green, and environmentally friendly city.”
