Mohammed Abdullah Al Dhuhouri, Director of Government Communication at the municipality, said the event was an opportunity to acknowledge people who rarely get the spotlight despite doing some of the most essential work in the city.
Among those honoured were workers singled out for outstanding performance during 2025, as well as a group who worked on the ground during the Al Azm depression – a period that placed considerable pressure on field teams across the emirate. Their dedication during that challenging period was acknowledged.
The celebration went beyond handing out awards. The day was more festive and celebratory, as employees participated in entertainment contests and prize raffles organised by the municipality. Free medical check-ups were on hand throughout the day, with workers able to get their blood pressure and blood sugar checked on the spot — a small but thoughtful gesture from a municipality that understands its people work hard with their bodies, not just their hands.
Meals were distributed in partnership with Sharjah Co-operative Society, rounding off an event designed to feel genuinely inclusive rather than merely ceremonial.
