The reception, held at the Council's headquarters in Sharjah on Monday morning, was part of the third ordinary session of the eleventh legislative term of the Consultative Council, preparing for an upcoming session dedicated to discussing the policy of the Sharjah Department of Public Works.
The Chairman of the department received representatives from the Utilities Committee, including Engineer Jamila Al Fandi Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the committee; Ahmed Obaid Al Awasiah Al Zaabi, rapporteur; His Excellency Sultan Saeed bin Dalmook Al Suwaidi; and Salem Mohammed Al Rashdi. Present were Jassim Mohammed Al Hanawi Al Naqbi, a member of the council and chairman of the committee for the preparation of the draft recommendations; Meera Khalifa Al Muqarab, Secretary General of the council; and Saif Salem bin Suwaif Al Ketbi from the General Secretariat of the council.
Engineer Jamila Al Fandi Al Shamsi welcomed the Chairman of the Department of Public Works and his companions. She emphasised that the Consultative Council is eager, through its committees, to improve direct communication with government agencies and to familiarise itself with their projects and executive programmes before discussing them within the parliamentary chamber.
She explained that this meeting is part of a series of coordination sessions designed to support government efforts, exchange views and suggestions, and follow up on initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable leadership in the emirate's urbanisation. This is particularly within the framework of preparing to discuss the policy of the Department of Public Works during a session to be held by the Council.
She also stressed the significance of the Department's work and the Council's eagerness to understand and support its roles, as it is involved in the reconstruction, construction, and maintenance of government buildings and facilities, and has a direct link to citizens' affairs and many departments.
For his part, His Excellency Engineer Ali Saeed bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi commended the Permanent Consultative Council's interest in the Department's work, emphasising that the Department of Public Works' presence in the Council fosters exchange of views and enhances institutional cooperation to ensure role integration, contribute to sustainable development, and meet the community's needs.
During the meeting, the Department of Public Works presented its vision, mission, strategic objectives, and its ongoing three-year plan for 2025-2027. It also outlined its work on infrastructure, buildings, and government facilities, emphasising its efforts to achieve sustainable leadership in the emirate's urbanisation and to improve the development process by adopting appropriate measures and addressing the needs of various cities and regions.
The meeting also reviewed the Department's initiatives in Emiratizing jobs, its policies for continuous improvement, performance review and development, and its focus on listening to the opinions of service recipients and understanding their needs. It also emphasised efforts to learn from successful experiences and to adopt the latest technologies across its various operations.
During the meeting, the Department reviewed a comprehensive overview of the project management programme and the prospects for joint cooperation with the Consultative Council concerning urban policies and the development of residential neighbourhoods, focusing on the provision of parks and government buildings, in addition to discussing efforts to ensure the quality of urban construction.
The meeting concluded by emphasising the importance of role complementarity between the Consultative Council, a parliamentary body that supports the work of Sharjah Government departments and authorities, and the Sharjah Public Works Department in promoting urban development. It also highlighted the necessity of providing facilities and buildings that effectively serve community members, aligning with the ambitions of the wise leadership towards a more sustainable and prosperous future.
